Big, serious sounding words, but what do they mean to us?
Here at First Choice, we're caring people, so its only natural that we care about the environment and our community too. So please spare a few minutes to read our CSR policy - its important and if we all get on board the world will be a better place to live!
First Choice's CSR Policy Statement:
"First Choice will implement measures to reduce energy consumption and waste products, re-use and recycle where possible. In addition, First Choice will seek to educate people about environmental issues through our services".
CSR in Conferences and Events - what can we do?
There are lots of ways in which conferences and events can be organised with a more environmental and social conscience - and it doesn't have to cost more money! Here are a few ideas -
- Choose venues that have a CSR policy or are committed to a greener way of working. More and more venues are realising the importance of this. Speak to us and let us find the perfect venue for your event!
- Think about delegate transportation - encourage the use of public transport. Or book a coach with us
- Stay more than one night in a hotel! This cuts energy consumption and waste
- Think about where your food comes from - opt for local and organic produce to cut down on packaging and food mileage
- Activities and entertainment - how about a team building game with a conscience? Or inspire your delegates with an environmentalist speaker
- Stationery and papers - use recycled paper, print double sided, re-use brochures and folders, recycle all conference materials
- Corporate gifts and prizes - rather than another bottle of Champagne, donate gift money to a worthwhile cause - buy a goat for an African village or help train a teacher.
CSR in the office at First Choice
We're also making changes of how we work in the office - we promise to:
- Reduce office waste

Recycle paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and foil

Refill printer cartridges

Drink filtered tap water - its free and means there is no need for a water cooler and those nasty plastic cups

Use Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar
- Use recycled products where possible; toilet paper, kitchen roll, paper pads
- Re-use folders and files
- Share our lunch - sometimes we share our lunch with each other - Penny makes a great soup!
- Use electronic forms of communication for marketing purposes - our newsletter is sent by email every quarter
- Keep travel emissions as low as possible - 3 out of 7 staff member walk to work! 2 members work from home.
- Share transport and use public transport where possible
- Switch off unnecessary lighting
- Switch off computers, screens and printers every night
- Praise each other - positive words make all the difference
- Turn down the thermostat slightly
- Support a local charity
