Six of the best!
Another fantastic milestone has been reached for First Choice Conference and Events! There are now Six people in the business with over 10 years’ tenure, contributing to our growth and ongoing success.
Karen, Laura, and Ross have each been loyal and hardworking team members for what seems like forever! I recall them all on their first day. Full of apprehension about taking an important step up in their careers, and eager anticipation about what the future might hold. Changing jobs and careers is becoming increasingly common in today’s fast-paced business world. It is a great testament to their commitment and passion for the industry, that they are still contributing to our team’s success 10 years later.
Commitment is an interesting subject. Had I asked any of them if they were prepared to commit to working with me for 10 years back in 2008, I suspect they would have declined.
So, what is Commitment?
Commitment is dedication to an organisation, cause, or belief. It is a willingness to get involved. People who are committed to an organisation or effort, truly believe that what they are doing is important. They show up. They follow through. They stick with it. Not only through the good times – winning awards and celebrating successes. But also, through the tough times. The challenges, hardships, struggles and disappointments, that all successful businesses must navigate at times, in order to succeed and grow.
It fills me with huge pride to have watched Karen, Laura and Ross grow in confidence, knowledge, skills, professionalism, and attitude over the last 10 years. Having amazing and talented people around me who understand the culture of the business, love the Company and are highly committed, ensures our business continues to grow and thrive in the future.
Commitment creates momentum and flow. And commitment ensures we consistently deliver the best service possible for our clients.
Here are just a few of the memories, experiences, and highlights over the last 10 years, in their own words:
Karen – 10 years & 7 months
Having worked in many different areas of the business over the last 10 years, I have settled now in operations. I love working at First Choice Conference & Events, it has become my second family.
I enjoy the fact that no day is ever the same, the fast-paced work load, diverse events, clients and other team members make the job fun, challenging and rewarding.
I am proud to be a part of an award-winning team and it was amazing to win Gold at M&IT 1st time round, let alone to go on to make it a hat-trick! Which is just amazing and a testament to how we are perceived professionally by our clients.
A major highlight for myself, was never giving up on a lead, turning that lead into one of our top achieving clients and watching it grow.
Ross – 10 Years & 3 months
I’ve amounted many great memories in a decade (and a few grey hairs), but some of my fondest events to reminisce over include a torch-lit drinks reception in the Roman Baths, an intimate formal dinner with a pianist at Cosworth Park (sat next door to the Queen!) and swimming with dolphins in the Indian Ocean. At First Choice HQ, our working atmosphere is upbeat with an ethos on building strong relationships and practicing good business ethics, and the team have become like a family to me (complete with occasional bickering and throwing of soft objects). The focus on health at work – both mind and body – is important to me as we try to implement healthy eating and exercise into our daily routines. My role also involves meeting new people, chatting the hind legs off a donkey and discovering exciting new venues across the world – what’s not to like!?
Laura – 10 years & 2 months
My best experience in the last 10 years was taking a group to Turkey for a week with Penny, not speaking Turkish myself the language barrier was quite tricky at times and we had to deal with some very unusual requests from the client. The dinner we held for them at a private venue overlooking the Bosphorus River was a fantastic evening and an event I will always remember.
I think I have stayed here so long because of the awesome team I work with, we all genuinely get on with each other and are like a big family, there is definitely no ‘I’ in team here, we all pull together when needed and work together so well.
