International Forest Therapy Days Conference Week
A wellness blog by Ian Banyard
For the second year in a row, I returned to Finland to co-host the International Forest Therapy Days Conference week. This is a growing inclusive community who advocate for forests and people, and the bond between the two. Established in 2018 as a private, not-for-profit initiative, IFT days brings together scientists, researchers and nature connection practitioners. The aim is to raise global awareness and learn more about the benefits of forests for human health and well-being. Finland have been named the happiest country in the world and being back there was just brilliant!
It’s not hard to understand why – the country has a solid social net and has a strong proactive approach to ending homelessness. It also has a high-quality education system, and its commitment to closing the gender gap is paying off. With a population of just over 5.5 million people, it’s the only country in the developed world where fathers spend more time with school-aged children than mothers! On top of all these fantastic initiatives, Finland is also Europe’s most heavily forested country, with almost 75% of the entire country being inhabited by forest.
All of these factors not only make Finland the happiest country in the world, but also make it the perfect destination to hold a conference about health, well being or environmentalism. Below are some of Finland’s top conference venues and they all boast features that tie in with Finland’s sustainable and happy life style.
